तास्तदा सविषैर्दष्टाः कुपितैस्तैर्महाशिलाः। जज्ज्वलुः पावकोद्दीप्ता बिभिदुश्च सहस्रधा

tāstadā saviṣairdaṣṭāḥ kupitaistairmahāśilāḥ| jajjvaluḥ pāvakoddīptā bibhiduśca sahasradhā

Translation (English)

Bitten by the venomous and angry snakes, the mountain was broken into a thousand pieces by the blazing flames.

M.N. Dutt (1891)

Commentary

The mountain bursts into a thousand pieces, consumed by the fire of the serpents' venom. This spectacular destruction is the culmination of Hanuman's preparation. The mountain that served as his launchpad is transformed — nothing remains as it was. The world itself is remade by Hanuman's resolve.
