There was a renowned king named Dasharatha, and Rama, the mighty lord, knower of dharma, conqueror of the senses.
— Gita Press
Commentary
Narada introduces Rama as the ideal man: mighty, knower of dharma, conqueror of the senses. The phrase 'conqueror of the senses' (jitendriya) is key — Rama's strength is not physical but spiritual. He rules himself before he rules others.
