All of us are fortunate indeed that Rama who knows the world's high and low shall be our king, protector for a long time.
— M.N. Dutt (1891)
The people count themselves fortunate: Rama will be their king and protector for a long time. The word 'long time' is poignant — they assume decades of Rama's rule. They do not know that his reign will be preceded by fourteen years of exile. The gap between expectation and reality is the space tragedy fills.
