अहो महात्मा राजाऽयमिक्ष्वाकुकुलनन्दनः। ज्ञात्वा यो वृद्धमात्मानं रामं राज्येऽभिषेक्ष्यति
aho mahātmā rājā'yamikṣvākukulanandanaḥ| jñātvā yo vṛddhamātmānaṃ rāmaṃ rājye'bhiṣekṣyati
Oh having realised that he himself has grown old the highsouled king Dasaratha the veritable delight to the Ikshvaku race, is going to coronate Rama in the kingdom.

Commentary
The citizens reflect on Dasharatha's age and the wisdom of his decision. Their words echo the king's own reasoning — the old king steps aside, the young king steps forward. The order of nature is being fulfilled, and the people recognise its rightness.
