Seeing his beloved son Rama who was standing by his side with folded hands in supplication, king Dasaratha, held his folded hands and drew him near and embraced him.
— M.N. Dutt (1891)
Dasharatha beholds his son standing with folded hands and takes him in his embrace. The king's emotion is barely contained — he holds Rama before he crowns him, the father's love preceding the king's command. The embrace is a silent blessing more eloquent than any ritual.
