Translation (English)

Rama whose virtues were cherished by all his subjects was a source of delight to his father and he shone like the rays of the resplendent Sun.

M.N. Dutt (1891)

Commentary

Rama is a source of delight to his father. After the cosmic descriptions, the verse returns to the intimate: a father's joy in his son. The epic never lets the grand and the personal drift apart — Rama is the saviour of the cosmos and also Dasharatha's beloved boy.
