Translation (English)

The houses reverberating with sounds of laughter and of musical instruments, decorated with lattice windows of diamonds resembled the sky shining with clouds with a goad made of diamond (thunderbolt of Indra).

M.N. Dutt (1891)

Commentary

The first hint of Sita's presence — the garden feels inhabited. Hanuman's heart quickens. The verse masterfully delays the actual sighting, building anticipation. Every detail of the garden is now charged with meaning because Sita may be near.
