Commentary

Sundara Kanda opens with Hanuman standing on the shore of the southern ocean, contemplating his leap to Lanka. The word sundara (beautiful) gives this book its name — it is considered the most beautiful section of the Ramayana, focused on Hanuman's devotion, courage, and unwavering service to Rama. This verse establishes the setting and Hanuman's determination.
