Translation (English)

Plunged in unfathomable fear and stricken with grief and tears I am here seeking your wellbeing and yet consumed as though by fire.

M.N. Dutt (1891)

Commentary

Manthara claims to be consumed with grief on Kaikeyi's behalf — 'plunged in unfathomable fear, stricken with grief and tears.' The performance of loyalty is complete. She has positioned herself as the only one who truly cares for Kaikeyi's welfare.
