तेषामञ्जलिपद्मानि प्रगृहीतानि सर्वशः। प्रतिगृह्याब्रवीद्राजा तेभ्यः प्रियहितं वचः

teṣāmañjalipadmāni pragṛhītāni sarvaśaḥ| pratigṛhyābravīdrājā tebhyaḥ priyahitaṃ vacaḥ

Translation (English)

The citizens held out their palms folded like lotuses in reverence and urged king Dasaratha in all possible ways (to coronate Rama). He reciprocated their respect with words preasing and beneficial to them:

M.N. Dutt (1891)

Commentary

The citizens fold their palms like lotuses and urge Dasharatha to act. The gesture is worshipful — they approach their king as one approaches a deity. The coronation of Rama is not merely a political transition but a sacred event the people have been longing for.
