Translation (English)

This son of the Raghus (Rama) is softspoken, steadfast, always serene, truthful and free from envy. He is pleasing to all beings. He serves those elderly brahmins versed in many lores. With these virtues his incomparable glory, fame and splendour have steadily grown.

M.N. Dutt (1891)

Commentary

Rama is soft-spoken, steadfast, serene, and truthful. The qualities have appeared before in the epic's descriptions, but each repetition deepens them. Valmiki is not being redundant — he is etching an icon, line by line, until the reader sees Rama clearly.
