अनुजातो हि मां सर्वैर्गुणैर्ज्येष्ठो ममात्मजः। पुरन्दरसमो वीर्ये रामः परपुरञ्जयः

anujāto hi māṃ sarvairguṇairjyeṣṭho mamātmajaḥ| purandarasamo vīrye rāmaḥ parapurañjayaḥ

Translation (English)

My eldest son Rama, inheriting every virtue of mine, is a conqueror of enemy cities and is equal to Indra in prowess.

M.N. Dutt (1891)

Commentary

Dasharatha formally presents Rama to the assembly as his eldest son, heir to every virtue he possesses. The phrase 'conqueror of enemy cities' reminds the assembly that Rama is not only wise but battle-proven. The king is not asking for a favour — he is presenting the obvious successor.
