Translation (English)

The king realised afterwards that his grief would be dispelled if noble Rama whose countenance resembled the full moon and who was a favourite of the people is crowned.

M.N. Dutt (1891)

Commentary

The king realises that his grief will be dispelled when Rama is crowned. The verse reveals a subtle anxiety beneath Dasharatha's joy — he carries a weight that only Rama's succession can lift. The coronation is as much for the father's peace as for the kingdom's welfare.
