महीमहमिमां कृत्स्नामधितिष्ठन्तमात्मजम्।।2.1.39।। अनेन वयसा दृष्ट्वा यथास्वर्गमवाप्नुयाम्।
mahīmahamimāṃ kṛtsnāmadhitiṣṭhantamātmajam anena vayasā dṛṣṭvā yathāsvargamavāpnuyām|
'Seeing my son ruling this entire dominion of the earth, I will experience the bliss of attaining heaven at this age.'

Commentary
Dasharatha imagines the bliss of seeing Rama rule the earth. The phrase is tender and personal — this is not a king making a political calculation but a father dreaming of his son's success. The happiness he anticipates will be replaced by grief, and the contrast is the engine of the tragedy.
