वर्णानामर्थसंघानां रसानां छन्दसामपि। मङ्गलानां च कर्त्तारौ वन्दे वाणीविनायकौ॥१॥
varṇānāmarthasaṅghānāṃ rasānāṃ chandasāmapi| maṅgalānāṃ ca karttārau vande vāṇīvināyakau||1||
I salute the creators of letters, meanings, sentiments, metres and auspiciousness — Saraswati (goddess of speech) and Ganesha (lord of wisdom).
वर्णों, अर्थसमूहों, रसों, छन्दों और मंगलों के कर्ता — वाणी और विनायक को मैं नमस्कार करता हूँ।
Commentary
Tulsidas opens with a salutation to the two creators of all auspicious beginnings: Saraswati (speech) and Ganesha (wisdom). Every letter and meaning flows from their grace. By invoking them first, the poet places his work under divine protection.
