स सूर्याय महेन्द्राय पवनाय स्वयंभुवे। भूतेभ्यश्चाञ्जलिं कृत्वा चकार गमने मतिम्
sa sūryāya mahendrāya pavanāya svayaṃbhuve| bhūtebhyaścāñjaliṃ kṛtvā cakāra gamane matim
Offering salutations with folded palms to the Sungod, to Mahendra, lord of the gods, to the windgod, to the Creator Brahma and to all the attendants of lord Siva, made up his mind to proceed (to Lanka).

Commentary
Hanuman's salutations to the deities before his leap reveal his character: he is mighty yet reverent. The order is significant — Surya (the visible sun), Mahendra (Indra, king of gods), Pavana (the wind-god, his own father), Svayambhu (Brahma, the creator), and the Bhutas (attendants of Shiva). He honours heaven, earth, his lineage, and the cosmos before acting.
