Seeing a royal maid clad in white silk garment and standing not very far with her eyes expanded in delight Manthara enquired:

Manthara sees a royal maid in white silk, her eyes wide with delight, and questions her. The encounter is casual — one servant speaking to another. But the question carries the weight of the entire kanda: 'Why is everyone so happy?'
