सा दह्यमाना कोपेन मन्थरा पापदर्शिनी। शयानामेत्य कैकेयीमिदं वचनमब्रवीत्
sā dahyamānā kopena mantharā pāpadarśinī| śayānāmetya kaikeyīmidaṃ vacanamabravīt
The malevolent Manthara on fire with fury reached Kaikeyi lying upon her couch and said:

Commentary
Manthara, 'on fire with fury,' reaches Kaikeyi lying on her couch and speaks. The image is jarring: the queen at rest, the maid in flames. Kaikeyi is relaxed, unsuspecting, content. Manthara's words will enter this peace like a sword.
