कामतस्त्वं प्रकृत्यैव विनीतो गुणवानसि।।2.3.41।। गुणवत्यपि तु स्नेहात्पुत्र वक्ष्यामि ते हितम्।
kāmatastvaṃ prakṛtyaiva vinīto guṇavānasi guṇavatyapi tu snehātputra vakṣyāmi te hitam|
Admittedly gentle by nature, you are gifted with virtues. O son, even though virtuous, I shall offer you counsel for your good out of affection for you.

Commentary
Even though Rama is already virtuous, Dasharatha offers him counsel. The verse is touching — a father giving advice his son does not need, because that is what fathers do. The counsel that follows is timeless wisdom for any ruler.
