इच्छामो हि महाबाहुं रघुवीरं महाबलम्। गजेन महताऽयान्तं रामं छत्रावृताननम्

icchāmo hi mahābāhuṃ raghuvīraṃ mahābalam| gajena mahatā'yāntaṃ rāmaṃ chatrāvṛtānanam

Translation (English)

We cherish to see the mightyarmed hero among the Raghus, Rama, riding on a majestic elephant, his countenance shadowed by the royal parasol.

M.N. Dutt (1891)

Commentary

The assembly expresses its desire to see Rama riding a majestic elephant through the city, his face like the autumn moon. The image is pure celebration — a people imagining their prince in his moment of glory. The verse captures the collective affection Ayodhya holds for Rama.
