Translation (English)

I shall be relieved of my anxiety by entrusting the land (ruled by me) to my son (Rama) without any more delay and thus ensure the continued welfare of this world.

M.N. Dutt (1891)

Commentary

Dasharatha admits his anxiety and his desire to be relieved of it by entrusting the kingdom to Rama. This is the most human moment in the speech — the king is not only performing a political act but seeking peace for his own weary soul.
