Translation (English)

He had understanding of art and craft useful for entertainment. He knew proper ways of dispensing wealth. He was experienced in riding elephants and horses and in humbling them.

M.N. Dutt (1891)

Commentary

Rama understands the arts of entertainment and the proper ways of dispensing wealth. The ideal king is not an ascetic who despises pleasure nor a spendthrift who squanders resources. He knows the place of enjoyment and the discipline of generosity.
