बुद्धिमान्मधुराभाषी पूर्वभाषी प्रियंवदः। वीर्यवान्न च वीर्येण महता स्वेन विस्मितः
buddhimānmadhurābhāṣī pūrvabhāṣī priyaṃvadaḥ| vīryavānna ca vīryeṇa mahatā svena vismitaḥ
Wise and softspoken, he was the first to speak to others words pleasing to hear. Though mighty, he was never proud of his overwhelming strength.

Commentary
Rama is wise, soft-spoken, and the first to speak — he puts others at ease. He is mighty but does not boast of his might. The balance of strength and gentleness is the Ramayana's ideal of nobility, and Rama embodies it completely.
